… Thomas Taylor, senior, was born on the 10th of September, 1743, in Amelia County, Virginia, a region still the chosen seat of the most gallant and excellent qualities that grace the manners of the Old Dominion. In 1754, his father emigrated to this state, fixing himself on the eastern bank of the Congaree, 10 miles below Columbia.… In the year 1766, being 23 years old, he married Miss Anne Wyche, of Brunswick (now Greeneville) county, Virginia. In the ensuing troubles of the Revolution, he early joined himself to the cause of Freedom… (a long account of Col. Taylor's adventures and exploits, mentioning Capt. Eli Kershaw, Gen. Sumter, a band of Tories headed by the bloody Cunningham, whom Taylor once captured and magnanimously spared, Col. Taylor's brother John Taylor and his friend Joel M'Lemore) … Mrs. Taylor survives her husband, after an union of 67 years, the remaining object of affection and reverence to thirty grand-children and twenty great-grand-children.
