Death date may be wrong. Per family legend, John A. Nowlin served in the Civil War, was captured, imprisoned, caught “consumption”, and was sent home where he died. I think he served with Co. H, 7th (Duckworth’s) TN. Cavalry. Would have been a private when he joined, and Sgt. at his release.
