At first, Sam and Margaret farmed land in Marion County, SC. In the latter part of 1880, they moved to Williamsburg County, SC. In Williamsburg County, in 1883, Sam bought 150 acres from Robert V. MORRISON of Charleston County for $75. In 1888, Florence County was formed from parts of Marion, Clarendon, Darlington and Williamsburg Counties. Then, Sam and Margaret lived in Florence County, where he ran a blacksmith shop. Later, he moved the family to Gregg Township, Aiken County, SC, in an area known as Horse Creek Valley, where he worked in the mill as a machinist.
On 24 October 1899, Sam sold to James C. LYNCH for the sum of $750: all of the R. V. MORRISON acreage; "one tract containing three hundred and twenty (320) acres known as the Samuel MOORE land; and one other tract containing two (2) acres lying in front of the dwelling house and on the road leading from Lawrence Bridge to Scranton, SC."
Sam went to Georgia around 1903 and took out a Security Deed on 238 acres of the Governor Johnson place in Jefferson County. On 2 January 1908, he bought from L. W. LANIER for $2,000 "all that tract or parcel of land . . . containing two hundred and seventy eight (278) acres, more or less consisting of two tracts, one known as the LANIER New Ground containing forty (40) acres . . . one containing two hundred and thirty eight (238) acres more or less." This land also covered the lot known as the Danforth place at Johnson Turnout on the C. R. R. about four and one half miles from Bartow, GA. He lived there for the rest of his life.
Sam died in Jefferson County, GA, and was buried in Parker's Chapel Methodist Cemetery near Bartow, GA.
