On 25 March 1834, Jesse Hicks (aged 72 years) swore the following oath to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress passed 7 June 1832: "That he enlisted on the 16th day of March 1781 as a militia man in the County of Dobbs, State of North Carolina, and served in the Brigade commanded by Gen. Carwile in a regiment commanded by Col. Leirton in the Company of Capt. Johnson.... That he was discharged on the 25 September 1781 having a tour of duty of six months." Recorded by D. Brown, Clerk, Book E, Vol. 6, Page 69.

Jesse Hicks' will was signed and dated 4 February 1848. Witnesses were John M. Timmons, R. B. White and Robert R. Gibson. It was filed for probate 13 November 1849.141
