Notes for William Humphries
From the Irwin book:

He was living in Charles City Co in 1662 when he received a land patent. At that time he was apparently in the colony for 19 years, as a William Worleidge received land in payment for transporting eleven persons to the colony including William Humphries. This was 1643.

His first land was 200 acres in Charles City County on the eastern side of Turkey Island Creek. In 1669 he purchased 150 acres in Henrico Co VA from Richard Cocke. This property was known as Malvern Hill, and was the site of quite a bit of later history.Lafayette camped there during the revolution. In 1812 the Virginia militia was there. In the civil war the property was the site of a battle between Lee and McClelland. He sold it to Robert Provall in 1685.

In 1679 he was living at Turkey Island and was subject to a tyth or personal tax to pay for defense against Indians.

He spent his last years in the home of his daughter Mararet and her husband Maurice Floyd. He sold his 200 acres on Turkey Island to Maurice Floyd in 1681. His will still exists in Henrico Co VA. I have a copy which mentions Jane Eyre.500
